OK.

The question on the game show was: "Name the gold coin currency widely used in Europe prior to 1800?" (or something close to that).

The answer was, and is, the ducat. For any new folks out there, Ducat is also the handle of a poster here from way back. He seems to have reduced his input around here, but still occasionally rears up with a good 'ol "Blow Me" to let us know he's still out there.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

Do you win?

Careful. You must remember that a "win" around here is the rough equivalent of a resounding defeat anywhere else.

That you do; but I still think she was more pissed off at me than you--that has to give me something to brag about.

That's it ? I'm looking for a connection between currency ( hf above ) and a British game show . Are the rest of the sentences somehow clues ...?
I feel like the kid who didn't get the obvious joke . Ohhh , that's it .

Sorry RLO! Was absent, but SDH helped out...ducat's the cat that always says (posts), ahem, "blow me", but we still love him.

You do love Cash Cab, don't ya? I pegged you for a fan; it's like Jeopardy on wheels, but no competition cept the clock...

Never even heard of it (Cash Cab, that is; ducat the poster is, yes, memorable for his succinct posts).

OMGosh...I thought all the hepcats were onto it; it's all the rage with college age kids, or so I've heard, but it's a bit too New York for me (lots of area references, etc.; trust me, to win you could use a smart Jewish kid like Woody Allen in your "share a cab ride" group). I think it's on the "discovery" channel...? I make ref's to it in my classes and the 18-30 yr old crowd are always on it--but maybe they just smile and nod to make me feel better? Just like around here? They barely know about my deep, dark Forum secrets; if they did, who knows what they'd do to me at review time!?

Just be sure to say nice things about me if anyone asks, okay? You know how sensitive I am...

Cash Cab is great because the questions are easy. The light version of the 1st round of Jeopardy. Sure, occasionally they ask a question which may not be in every individuals wheel-house, but I'd say 90% of the questions are truly general knowledge.

I prefer the challenge of Jeopardy. I actually feel smart on occasion. Ya know...when you get one that all the contestants miss. Especially a daily-double or FINAL JEOPARDY. Ahhhhhh nirvana.

Yeah, I'd agree with that assessment, but sometimes there are a few too many East Coast ref's (eg, foods, bdlgs, etc), question wise...CCab that is. If you "give me" the two shout outs, I almost always make the ride...

I don't watch much TV. I am likely to miss the reference except maybe to Seinfeld, or lately I'm kind of into House.

Yup; those aren't bad--with my ailments, old re-runs are the thing...got a bit bored with House as it became redundant I thought after a few seasons.
